History of the Department of OVPK: 80s

The further development of publishing in Ukraine and Kyiv required the expansion and improvement of the training of specialists with higher education. Book trade developed rapidly. There was an urgent need to train specialists in bibliology and distribution of book products. This led to the introduction in the KVF in 1981 of a new specialty "Bibliography and distribution of printed products", which was entrusted to the Department of Technology and Economics of Printing. In addition to the staff of the department, UPI employees, associate professors, candidates of historical sciences DD Kusko and JM Kovba took a direct part in the development of curricula; Associate Professor, Candidate of Philological Sciences MV Starovoit. New pedagogical staff was involved in the educational process.

The first graduation of specialists, who were awarded the qualification "bibliologist, organizer of the book trade", took place in 1986. Graduates of this specialty began to work as bookstore managers and their deputies, heads of departments, commodity experts, were invited to work in publishing houses. Among them are the director of the book trade firm RA Kornienko, the head of the bookstore № 52 OD Shostakova and others. Graduates of the specialty "Economics and organization of the printing industry" also rose through the ranks.

The period of Ukraine's formation as an independent state coincided with the transfer of KVF UPI to the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, one of the best universities in Ukraine and one of the largest in Europe. Quite different possibilities opened up - accordingly, the teaching staff headed by the Dean of the Faculty, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor AK Dorosh, faced new tasks.

If until now the training was carried out only on the evening form of training, the KPI administration, taking into account the industry's need for staff, raised the issue of opening a hospital. The increase in the workload with the opening of full-time education, the need to develop the material base, the need to restructure educational work, the deployment of research led to the division of technology and economics of printing production into two independent departments: economic and technological. Thus, in 1990, the Department of Publishing, Printing and Book Distribution (Department of OVPK) was established at the Publishing and Printing Faculty of KPI. Yu. O. Barnych was elected the head of the department.
